Honeycutt.jpgBen Honeycutt (Special / Fox / "American Idol" Web site)Ben Honeycutt, one of the Alabama hopefuls on "American Idol," had his dreams dashed on national TV this week.

Honeycutt, who has roots in Rainsville, was cut from the competition on Wednesday's episode after performing in the group round.

He received some screen time when his group, The Phoenix, covered Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son." But the overall performance was uneven and "Idol" judges nixed two of the four members: Honeycutt and Moorea Masa.

Honeycutt, a rock singer-songwriter, is the former frontman of Candlefuse, a contemporary Christian band. He grew up in Rainsville and attended Plainview High School.

He lives in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and serves as worship leader at The Church at Catoosa in Ringgold, Ga.

No word yet on Kristi Quinnie, a golden-ticket holder from Fairfield who participated in the Hollywood round. However, she isn't included on Internet spoiler lists of the "Idol" top 24.

"Idol" will reveal its top 24 on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
